If you want to get noticed online, you have to have a website. Although it’s fine – even necessary – to use social media to boost your conversions and find more customers, it’s your website that will do most of the hard work. After all, those social media followers will need to have somewhere to go if and when they want to spend their money with you. Plus, your website is the ideal place to showcase your goods and services and to increase your sales.

Yet even if you have a website, that doesn’t mean you’ll get visitors. It might be that you’re getting far fewer than you expect, and that could be a big problem if you’re relying on your website to grow your business and build your profits. With this in mind, here are some of the reasons why you might not be getting the visitor numbers you had hoped for. Once you know the issue, you can put steps in place to fix them.

No SEO

SEO (search engine optimization) is crucial if you want to find visitors for your website. It’s an umbrella term for all the things you have to do to ensure your website is ranked well in search engine results pages (SERPs). If you are ranked well, you’ll appear high up in the results when someone searches for whatever it is your business does. The higher you are – ideally at the top of the first page – the more visitors you’ll have as people will click through to your website.

If you don’t have any SEO, or the SEO you do have isn’t good enough, you will be missing out on a lot of visitors who would otherwise be able to find you when they search and go to your website. Invest some time and possibly money to get your SEO right – this could mean using the correct keywords, adding more content, and linking to high-authority pages, for example – and your visitor numbers should grow.

Bad Design

Sometimes you might be getting visitors, but the design of your website means they only stay for a few seconds and then leave again to find an alternative. The time spent on your website is known as the ‘bounce rate’; the shorter the time, the worse your rankings can be affected. Google assumes your site holds no value andwon’t show it high up in results.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to engage an expert in web design to ensure your website looks as good as possible. Your web design has to be aesthetically pleasing, and it needs to be functional and easy to navigate. If you can put these things in place, your bounce rate will improve, and you’ll have more visitors.

Your Content Is Weak

We briefly mentioned content earlier in terms of SEO, and it is something you need to think about if you want more people to come to your website. The content on your site can most easily be fixed using your blog. You can create content that explains your products and services, talks about customers’ pain points (and how you can solve the issues), and helps prove you are an expert in your field. The better the content, the more time people will spend on your website because they are gaining value from it.

As well as this, people will return to your website because they’ll want to know what else you have to say. Keep your content interesting and updated, and your website visitor numbers will grow.
