4 Easy Hacks I Learned During My Invisalign Treatment

No one loves to have crowded teeth that can create a breeding ground for bacteria, causing tooth decay and cavities. That is why, traditionally, many people opt for metal braces to straighten their teeth. I also wore metal braces as a kid, but I always felt awkward and shy to talk to my friends due to my braces.

However, one day I learned about Invisalign aligners – an alternative to metal braces. These clear aligners  can help you straighten your teeth and not make you feel awkward when talking. If you are looking to start Invisalign in Edmonton, you need to know a few things about Invisalign. In this guide, we will share a list of hacks about Invisalign that I wish I had known earlier.

Invisalign hacks I wish I knew earlier

Don’t forget your Invisalign case: Your Invisalign case is the new accessory that you can’t afford to forget at home. Initially, when I had my Invisalign, I forgot to carry its case with me. As a result, I had to place them by my side every time I had to eat my food. While it was good luck that I have never lost my Invisalign aligners, there is a big chance that you can lose them, which can be  an extra burden on your pocket. So, make sure you pack your Invisalign case whenever you leave your house.

Invest in a good nail file: The plastic edges of your new aligners often lead to unwanted cuts on the tongue and the inside of your mouth, which can be irritating and painful. At times, you can use wax for Invisalign to cover those sharp edges. All you need to do is take a small amount of wax, roll it in between your fingers, and apply it to the sharp edges. If this doesn’t work, you can either ask your orthodontist to file down your aligners for you or do it on your own with the help of a nail filer. In addition, it is recommended to keep a bottle of peroxide-based mouthwash to help heal minor oral irritation that occurs when you wear Invisalign aligners.

Keep track of your daily wear time: Orthodontists recommend wearing aligners for at least 22 hours a day for effective results. Undoubtedly, wearing aligners for a long time can be  challenging at first. Initially, you may wish to take them out, which is okay. However, it is mandatory to wear your aligners for the recommended time period to get the desired results. So, make sure you keep track of your daily wear time. You can set reminders every time you remove your aligners. It will help you get the desired results and not  lose your aligners.

Use a retainer after finishing your Invisalign treatment: Since it takes time for newly aligned teeth to settle into your jawbone, it is recommended to use a retainer after you finish your treatment. Retainers are custom-made devices designed to keep the teeth in place. So, your dentist may ask you to wear your retainers for a specific time, depending on your case.

The bottom line

It might take you some time to get used to wearing your Invisalign aligners. You may also experience some alterations in your speech pattern. However, it will fade away within a few days or weeks. As per my experience, Invisalign is a great alternative to  straighten your teeth. However, when you go for this treatment, make sure you remember the aforementioned hacks in your mind.

All the Best!
