Accent removal is also known as modification or neutralization. This is a systematic method for learning or adopting an accent. It’s the process of learning the sound system, or phonology, and melodic intonation of a language. This allows the non-native speaker of the second language to communicate with clarity.

Attention: Accent reduction training doesn’t necessarily mean ESL, which is English as a Second language. Accent reduction classes are more than just learning grammar and vocabulary. They also focus on clarity of speech and fine-tuning specific accents and dialects.

Adult learners who are proficient in the second language and have a basic level of conversational fluency can use foreign accent training. Accent reduction training is beneficial to all non-native speakers, regardless of background or profession. But, this does not mean that every non-native speaker should change their accent. Accent training does not aim to eliminate an accent. However, it can improve the clarity of speaking so the nonnative speaker is understood both at work and in the community. Medical professionals, doctors, researchers and telemarketers are all examples of business professionals. Sometimes, employers will request that their employees receive training in accent reduction to improve their communication with colleagues, clients, customers, and other professionals.
