Mominul Islam (60), a heroic freedom fighter from Mirsarai, Chittagong, has returned as a corpse on his way back from his relative’s janaza. He was killed in a bus crash while crossing the Mastannagar bypass area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at 11am on Wednesday (May 11).
The fatal bus driver said. Eklas Mia was arrested by Mirsarai’s Jorarganj Highway Police. The bus named Trisha Platinum is also in police custody.

It is learned that the heroic freedom fighter Mominul Islam is the son of late Abdus Salam of Masjidia village in Khaiyachhara union of upazila 12. In family life he is the father of three daughters. He traded oil in the local Baratakia market.
Son of the deceased’s daughter. Ridwan said he (Mominul Islam) went to Janardanpur village of the upazila on Wednesday morning to read the janaza of Abdul Mannan, father of Eradul Haque Nizami Bhutto, joint general secretary of the upazila. He died on the spot when he was hit by a reckless speeding Trisha bus while crossing the highway in Mastannagar Bishbrod area on his way home after Janaza prayers.
Zorarganj Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Titu Dutta said freedom fighter Mominul Islam was killed when he was hit by a reckless speeding bus of Tisha Platinum Paribahan. The body was handed over without an autopsy at the request of the family. The bus and its driver were detained and taken to the police station. The case is being processed.
