We have incredibly calcareous water in Krefeld and in our house also problems with the water pressure from time to time. We have already bought a wide variety of shower heads from various manufacturers. But they never lasted really long. Therefore, we were pleased that we were allowed to test the innovative Alpenkraft® shower head, which was made available to us for the test period free of charge and unconditionally.
AlpenKraft® is a brand of the small family business AVM Online Handels GmbH from Villach in Austria. The company was founded by the European Rowing & World Champion Martin Kobau. According to the company, the AlpenKraft® shower head was designed in Austria. It is designed to save water without losing pressure. In addition, a filter system against lime & Co. was integrated.

The AlpenKraft® shower head is completely assembled including a mineral stone filling for the filter system. So you can attach and use it immediately. To do this, turn the old shower head off the hose, wrap about 20 cm of the supplied Teflon tape around the outside of the thread and then turn the AlpenKraft® shower head onto the thread of the shower hose. If you now turn on the water, everything should be tight and the AlpenKraft® shower head should fill with water
It is recommended to clean the metal disc regularly. To do this, simply unscrew the silver ring on the shower head, remove the metal disc including sealing ring and place it in vinegar or descaler. Then rinse under running water and put it back on the shower head including the seal and attach with the silver ring.
If the brown filter beads turn gray, you should change the filling. To do this, unscrew the shower head on the small silver ring. Then you can pour the beads out of the pearl chamber and exchange them for the new filling.

Alpenkraft® shower head in the test
We had removed all lime stains & Co. before the »commissioning« of the AlpenKraft® shower head and believe that here in Krefeld the lime stains arise immediately after the first shower after cleaning and are very persistent. Unfortunately, this was also the case to the same extent after using the AlpenKraft® shower head. We could not find any improvement in the annoying limescale in the bathroom. Likewise, there was no change in the process itself. The water does not really seem to be “softer”, because the shampoo is not easier to remove and the hair does not feel more “silky”. And how this can feel, we find out again and again on holiday, when we are traveling in regions or countries that do not have such a huge lime problem as we do here on the Lower Rhine.
