Initial moments in life
Since childhood Ashwish was always passionate about acting and was determined to do well in the industry. His father owned a theatre and also worked with numerous actors so he was inspired and also grew up watching all Bollywood movies.
When he was in school, Ashish had no concentration in studies. He had planned to drop out of school, too. However, his father had recommended him to complete his education before submitting himself into acting. Ashish followed his father’s guidance and graduated high school with virtuous grades. He selected science and joined an engineering college. Inopportunely, Ashish failed in one of the subjects in his first year of engineering. His failure in academics and his incapability to dedicate time to his acting calling caused him to sink into depression.
However, he found a means to follow his desire and concurrently continue studying engineering. He joined the college committee and achieved the position of the event head. He then began partaking in college fests, which not only enhanced his confidence but also gave him a stage to showcase his talent. At the same time, he came across the app ‘Vine,’ which was the ‘in’ thing then. The first ‘Vine’ that he saw was a clip of David Lopez. Inspired by that clip, he decided to venture into the field by making one attract audience. He conducted some research and found that the ‘Vine’ market in India was completely untouched. Ashish seized this opportunity and decided to make “Vines.” His one vine opened so many doors for him.
On 6 July 2009, Ashish tossed his ‘YouTube’ channel, ‘Ashish Chanchlani Vines,’. However, he uploaded his first ‘YouTube’ video, ‘How to annoy people who say – tu mere baap ko jaanta hai?’ in December 2014 which has now earned over 2 million views online.
Ashish habitually casts his friends in all his online videos. His parents and sister have also been included in a few of his comedy videos. The video titled ‘The Stranger’ is the first and only non-comedy video that Ashish has made till date. Ashish has been privileged to work with his inspiration, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar also and made the most of it. They shared screen space for one of Ashish’s ‘YouTube’ videos. The video was also a publicity strategy for Akshay’s then-upcoming movie ‘Gold.’ Similarly, actor Shahid Kapoor had also acted in one of Ashish’s videos to endorse his film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu.’
Ashish has made over 4.2 million followers on Instagram and on Twitter, he has more than 393 thousand followers all because of his hard work.
Ashish made his TV inauguration with an episode of the TV series ‘Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya,’ aired on the channel ‘Zing.’ In the year of 2017, he appeared as ‘Ishaan’ in the ‘ALTBalaji’ web series ‘Class of 2017.’ One of the casting directors of the show had seen his work online before and had then suggested his name to the maker of the series, Vikas Gupta. Ashish had then aced the try-out and bagged successfully the role. According to him, he could relate to the character ‘Ishaan’ as he was a lot like him: imperfect, juvenile, and overweight. Incidentally, Ashish was always bullied in school for being overweight.
- In the year of 2018, Ashish was presented with the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Award for being the Best Digital Influencer.
- Indian Wiki Media Digital Awards for “Viral king of the year” and also “Viral video of the year”.
