Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is the latest addition to the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise and is set to be released on mobile devices. The game takes place in 215 BCE during the Qin dynasty in China and follows the story of Juzi, a customizable character who must defend their village of Yongning from the attacking Xiongnu tribe led by the primary antagonist Touman. In addition to customizable characters and RPG combat, the game features iconic parkour gameplay elements optimized for touch controls.
Codename Jade was initially leaked by In Game Loop in December 2022 and was later confirmed by Ubisoft during their Forward Livestream. The alpha testing phase, which took place from December 15th to 22nd, was referred to as Codename: Explore. During this time, gameplay footage was leaked, giving fans a preview of the introduction missions, open-world exploration, and character customization options.
One of the standout features of Codename Jade is the ability to create a fully customizable character, allowing players to choose their character’s gender, a first for the Assassin’s Creed series. The game takes place in the rural village of Yongning, and players will work alongside their master Wei Yu to protect the village from the invading Xiongnu.
While the setting of medieval China may be a departure from the franchise’s usual medieval Europe setting, the game is said to capture the essence of the open-world series. Overall, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade looks to be a promising addition to the franchise, bringing all the elements that fans have come to expect from the series to the mobile platform.
