An increase in the sun’s intensity is harmful to plants and animals. The sun is curbed from reaching the plants and animals directly. In this article, one method is described, and details on construction are given. The technique is also used to prevent the sun rays from reaching the man in different areas like balconies.

The sun’s direct ultraviolet light is essential in plants and animals at a given intensity. Plants use the rays to make food, and animals use vitamin D, which has healthy importance. An increase in the rays’ power causes damage to plants and animals. Different ways have been invented to reduce and block the sun’s intensity.

The primary method used to act as a cooler is the shade netting method. A cover is created to block the direct rays from the sun, and it controls the high temperatures from heating the plants and animals. The surface prevents the rays from 30% to 90% and is usually made of a polyethene bag. Polyethene is generally added with a UV stabilizer, and anti-oxidants and little light may be seen.

The Construction Processof Shade Netting in a Greenhouse

Some of the materials needed include;

● Rope

● Webbing used in place of a rope

● Mesh netting made from plastic or synthetic fibres

● Wire rope

Factors to consider during construction are;

● Mesh and opening sizes

● Overlapping and stitching

● The designing of net borders

● Lining- choose the most appropriate liners

● Availability of netting hardware; this includes items like snap, hooks, rings, and ratchets

● The application needed to be applied

Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Net

● Strength requirements for the job

● The environmental factors that will be acting upon the net

● If debris containment is a requirement

● Types of attachment points to be used on the site

The Details

● The material must be heavy-weight HDPE flat tape and UV additive for longer life

● The shade rate should be either 30%, 40%, -45%, -55%, 70%, -75%, 80%, -85%, 90%

● The main colors of the material can be green, black, white, and any other

● Eyelets down on both edges and don in the middle

● The packaging, must be wrapped in polythene and rolled on cardboard tubes full width

● It should be labeled with product reference, description, and size

Places where the Method is applied;

● Bird netting when covering them from direct heat or protection

● Temporary fencing for protection

● Greenhouse Covering from direct heat

● Hail protection

● In balconies to prevent wind and direct sun rays

● In decks for protection and debris prevention.

On the other hand, covering plants result in the following effects;

  1. Radiation- It reduces radiation from the sun to plants regardless of the color used to make the material.
  2. Air movement leads to reduced wind speed, and wind runs penetration the plants.
  3. Temperatures- The covers reduce heat stress.
  4. Relative humidity- relative humidity is higher inside the cover than outside. This is because the vapor that has transpired from the plants does not mix with the dry air outside.
