Google on Wednesday announced collaborations with the Bengaluru traffic police to increase traffic flow and safety. In order to improve the timing of the traffic lights at important crossroads, Google has teamed up with the Bengaluru traffic police.

Google has made advantage of the information that the Bengaluru traffic police supplied and obtained using Google Maps.

The new design, according to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B R Ravikanthe Gowda, demonstrated an average 20% reduction for each driver in waiting time at the crossroads used during the trial experiment. Gowda continued by saying that this might save cars at just one crossroads 400 hours per day and 73,000 hours yearly.

The third most populous city in the nation, Bengaluru has 13 million residents, 1.5 million of whom are floating. The city has 44,000 intersections and 14,000 kilometres of important roadways, according to the Bengaluru traffic police. There are around 1,000 significant intersections, 398 of which are signalised, while the other intersections are policed by traffic officers.

Gowda said that Google gathered data on city traffic patterns using artificial intelligence (AI). While Google Maps will indicate live road closures and propose alternate highways that may be traversed, he noted, road safety and time reduction will be important concerns.
