The park also referred to as Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary is an amazing palace to visit found in the centre of India in the Vindhyan Hills. It is a rare spot will lush jungle plants and wildlife in amongst more bare and rocky terrain. It is open all year except for between the 1st of July and the 15th of October which is the monsoon season. Because of its tropical nature and its location and the vegetation there though the best time to visit is between October and March. It is the most comfortable time to visit in terms of weather and temperatures. One of the big attractions there is the recently added cheetahs as well as the previous conservation efforts for Asiatic Lions. If you love to hike some of the trails there are outlined below.

Garhi or Palpur fort

This is a moderate-level trail as it is a fairly long one at 37.3km and there are some challenging aspects to the route. It is a trail that is near Pohari in Madhya Pradesh that goes out for a bit and then comes back in. You need to be prepared and be fit as it takes the average person about 10 to 11 hours to complete. You could choose to do some off-road driving, enjoy the scenery, take binoculars with you and enjoy birding. You are not likely to see a lot of other people.

This trail in Kuno wildlife sanctuary takes you to the 500-year-old ruins of Palpur fort, and they are an amazing sight when you see the sunset coming down over them. There are a large number of animals to see, Indian wolves, Indian leopards, jungle cats, dholes, sloth bears and more. You can also spot a huge variety of different species of birds while enjoying the views, including the Kuno river, where the park gets its name from.

Pawa waterfall

This is a long trail also, at 35.6km but is classed as easy, closer to Kolaras, Madhya Pradesh. It takes a little under 10 hours to finish and is also great for scenic driving, off-road driving, and birding. Again it is not a trail that has a lot of people on it all the time so you are not going to see a lot if any, people. This trail in Kuno National Park is a great one to hit because of the waterfalls you see at the end coming from the Pawa river. There is a large and wonderful Shiva statue to see which is a great example of the joining of religion and nature. The back roads mean it is a great way to enjoy the diversity and sights of the park in peace.

Shahabad Fort

If you like the idea of an easy trail in Kuno national park but need something shorter then you could hit the Shahabad Fort trail which is just 13.4km long. Most can get it done in 3 to 4 hours and then you can explore the wonderful heritage site of the fort itself about 85km from Baran. The fort was built sometime in the 8th or 9th centuries and is an example of Rajput architectural style. The road goes through lush forest and close to a lake where you can see many different animals and birds coming down for water.
