A lot of people are looking for natural healing remedies.  Alternative health practices are very popular right now because they take a more preventative approach to healthcare and treat the root cause of the illness rather than the symptoms of the illness.  People are turning away from western health and turning towards eastern health.

The chakras are one of the oldest healing systems in the world.  They are little disc shaped energy centers along the spine. There are hundreds of chakras in the body, but seven that we hear the most about.  The heart chakra, or anahata chakra, the throat chakra or Vishuddha chakra and the third eye chakra or the Ajna chakra are probably the three most well known.

The Anahata chakra is the heart chakra.  It is located in the heart center, the center of the chest.  In Sanskrit, it is known as the anahata chakra.  Its function is to help people stay open to love and have the capacity to love others.  It has to do with your roots, your connection to larger systems such as family and community.  It facilitates your ability to feel compassion for others, to have love for yourself and others and to give love freely in general.   It keeps you lighthearted and open-minded.  When you feel that you are running low on compassion or afraid of love, your anahata chakra, the heart chakra, may be out of balance.

The Vishuddha chakra or the throat chakra is located in the throat.  It is your center of voice and self expression.  This is where your inspiration for free speech from, your appreciation of clearly communicating and all things spoken.  If the cat has your tongue or you feel like you’ve lost your ability to speak clearly and effectively, your Vishuddha chakra or throat chakra may be out of balance.  If you feel like you can’t find your voice, you probably need to do some work on your Vishuddha Chakra.  The throat chakra is an important chakra for being able to let others know how and what you feel and to communicate your needs effectively.

The ajna chakra or third eye chakra is right between the eyes.  It is the center of your wisdom and intuition.  The third eye chakra or ajna chakra is responsible for making sure that we are in tune with our inner selves and inner wisdom.  That sense of knowing but not knowing how it is that you know something comes from the third eye chakra.  If you are feeling out of touch with yourself or your inner wisdom is wavering, it is totally possible that your ajna chakra, third eye chakra, is out of balance.

All of the chakras have colors that are associated with them and you may have seen the popular chakra images with the colors going up and down the spine.  The heart chakra or anahata chakra is green.  The throat chakra or Vishuddha chakra is is a shade of blue color.  The ajna chakra or third eye chakra is indigo.  Below these chakras are the root chakra, the sacral chakra and the solar plexus chakra and above these chakras is the crown chakra.  The base level chakras underneath the heart chakra are the foundation chakras.  They must be in alignment for the upper chakras to be in balance.
