In August 2022, after a string of successful dates, Coldplay announced extra dates in 2023 as part of the European tour. The addition leads to 16 shows from May until July across Portugal, Spain, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

Inclusivity for fans

In a statement on their website: “We want our concerts to be accessible to everyone, and for everyone to have the best possible experience. Here are a few things we are doing for the rest of the tour. At every show, we offer local sign language interpreters as well as Subpacs for our D/deaf and hard-of-hearing guests so that they can feel a stronger connection to the music. We’ve also teamed up with KultureCity to provide sensory bags and a mobile sensory refuge station for those with sensory sensitivities. For guests who are blind or have low vision, we now offer touch tours before the show.”

Making tours environmentally beneficial

For their tour to be as sustainable and low-carbon as possible, they needed to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions by 50%, reinvent by supporting new green technologies, develop super-low carbon touring methods, and finally, fund a portfolio of nature and technology-based projects.

With the tour now underway, it has been praised for its groundbreaking set of sustainability initiatives, including a show powered by 100% renewable energy in almost all locations. Including the world’s first tourable battery system (made from 40 BMW electric car batteries), power bikes and kinetic dancefloors allowing fans to help power the show.
Tickets for the European and UK shows are available now.

Music of the Spheres

Music of the Spheres, released in October 2021, is the 9th studio album by Coldplay, featuring guest appearances from Selena Gomez, Jacob Collier, We Are KING, and world-renowned BTS.

The album itself received mixed reviews, including an average score of 55 out of 100, based on 18 reviews. Some felt it was a desperate attempt to stay relevant.

It debuted at No.1 on the UK Albums Chart with 101,045 units sold, marking Coldplay’s ninth number-one album and the fastest-selling record of the year at the time of release.

Coldplay’s obsession with space

In 2005, the band released their first space-themed concept album, X&Y, which explored pop, pop rock, space rock, space music and ambient influences.

The Spheres is a fictional planetary system that contains nine planets, three natural satellites, a star and a nebula. Each of these corresponds to a certain track on the record.

According to lead singer Chris Martin, its concept and themes were inspired by the Star Wars film franchise, which made him and the other band members wonder what other artists could be like across the universe, while also using the planets as a canvas to explore the human experience.
