Have you ever wondered how goods from all over the country have managed to snag a place in your local grocery store? Well, it’s because we are introduced into the world of cargo transportation. By expanding the geographical limits of goods and labour markets, transportation raises the value of things by transporting them to places where they are worth more. It also encourages competition and growth. In ways that generate demand for products and services, freight transportation employs millions of people. Our nation’s wealth and productive capability are highly dependent on freight transportation systems.

Then you’ll be wondering, how on earth can thousands of products or even humongous items be delivered from point A to point B? And how do you find the right company? Well, if you live in Australia in Southeast Queensland, you’d want to search online for container transport Brisbane as that’s the main city in Queensland.

Back as early as 1792, boxes resembling current containers were employed in England for combined rail and horse-drawn transit. During WWII, the US government used compact standard-sized containers, which proved to be a speedy and efficient way of unloading and distributing supplies.

In 1955, Malcom P. McLean, an American trucking businessman, purchased a steamboat company with the intention of carrying complete truck trailers with their contents still inside. He thought that having a single container that could be transported from a vehicle directly onto a ship without having to empty its contents would be easier and faster. His ideas were based on the theory that efficiency might be greatly increased by implementing a system of “intermodalism” in which the same container, with the same cargo, could be transported with minimal interruption across several modes of transportation during its route.

Containers could be moved between ships, trucks, and trains with ease. This would reduce the entire logistical process and putting this concept into practice would eventually lead to a 50-year transformation in cargo transportation and worldwide trade.

The twenty-foot and forty-foot containers are the two most frequent international standardised container sizes. Container transportation’s flexibility plays a vital role in transportation cost reduction. It is the most cost-effective mode of freight transportation, particularly when transporting bulk and consumer items.

Containers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. One is dry storage containers. These are the basic shipping containers that are used to transport dry items and are typically available in lengths of 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft. Second is flat rack containers that have collapsible sides that fold, making them excellent for transporting boats, equipment, and automobiles.

Next is what’s known as side lift container transport. These doors can be completely opened on one side, allowing for a broader loading of products, which is great for exporting vegetables. While, open top containers, as the name implies, have no roof, allowing commodities of any height, such as logs or machinery, to be delivered.

Refrigerated storage containers are for food or pharmaceuticals. And lastly, tanks are containers that are used to store liquids (including gas).

Container transportation has created a big impact in today’s delivery services, it has become one of the main sources of delivery transportation, not only in Australia but to the whole world. So, when you’re curious as to how your favourite international crisps are in your local grocery store, you’ll thank the next container transport you’ll see.
