AHM Mustafa Kamal said, “Development projects which, even after six months, will not cause us any problems or harm, will not have a negative impact on the growth of the macro-economy and gross domestic product (GDP), will be postponed.” However, development projects will not be canceled.
Bangladesh Bank has discouraged imports of expensive cars and consumer electronics. At the time of opening the credit for import of these products, 75 percent of the money has to be deposited in advance. Apart from this, 50 percent payment has to be made in advance for all imports except baby food, food products, energy, medicine, agriculture and export oriented industries. Earlier, these products could be imported by depositing 25 percent money.
On discouraging the import of luxury goods, the finance minister said that while times are difficult, decisions have to be made. The situation around the world is not the same now. We have to work in unison with the world. Decisions must be made taking into account the overall situation in the world. As long as global instability is not finally addressed, difficult decisions may have to be made. Making difficult decisions does not mean that the wheel of the country’s economy will turn; Development will stop; There will be a deficit in our normal situation – that is not the case. ‘ “Naturally, we can buy luxury goods after two months,” he said.
