Grammy Award, any of a series of awards presented annually in the United States by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences ;NARAS or the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences ;LARAS to recognize achievement in the music industry.
The 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3, 2022. It recognized the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, running from September 1, 2020, to September 30, 2021. The nominations were revealed via a virtual live stream on November 23, 2021.
The performers for the ceremony were announced on March 15, 24, and 30, 2022. South African comedian Trevor Noah, who hosted the previous ceremony in 2021, returned as host. The ceremony’s location marked the first time the Recording Academy switched host cities for a single ceremony.
History of Grammy Awards
Winners are selected by genres as pop, rock, rap, R&B, country, reggae, classical, gospel, and jazz, as well as production and postproduction work, including packaging and album notes. Four general awards are also given for record, album, song of the year, and best new artist; in total more than 75 awards are presented. The honorees receive a golden statuette of a gramophone.
Entries are submitted by record companies as well as members of the academy and are reviewed to determine eligibility and category placement. The voting members of NARAS, through a series of ballots, select five nominees for each award and ultimately the winner; the voters cast ballots only in their areas of expertise..
Winners of Grammy Awards 2022
Jon Batiste received the most nominations with eleven, followed by Doja Cat, H.E.R., and Justin Bieber with eight each. Batiste received the most awards with five, and won Album of the Year for We Are. Silk Sonic won Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Leave the Door Open“, and Olivia Rodrigo won Best New Artist.
The ceremony was originally scheduled for January 31, 2022, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles; however, on January 5, 2022, the Recording Academy postponed the ceremony indefinitely due to health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
Indian Winner of Grammy Award
Indian-American singer Falguni Shah won a Grammy Award for A Colorful World in the Best Children’s Album category. Falguni Shah has even performed and collaborated with music maestro AR Rahman and she is the only Indian-origin woman to be nominated in the Best Children’s Music Album category at the Grammys twice. Falguni Shah was earlier nominated for a Grammy in the same category for her 2018 album Falu’s Bazaar.
The other nominees in the category were ‘Activate’ by 123 Andrés, ‘All One Tribe’ by 1 Tribe Collective, ‘Black to the Future’ by Pierce Freelon, and ‘Crayon Kids’ by Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band. Born in Mumbai and now based out of New York, Falu was even nominated in the same category in 2019 for her previous album called ‘Falu’s Bazaar’.
