The short answer is, it’s a five-hour drive depending on traffic. Here’s a map to help you out:

Summerville To Rocky Point

The first stop on the drive is Summerville, which is located right in the heart of the city. Like most other cities in the area, Summerville is surrounded by beautiful, white sandy beaches. In fact, the entire area is affectionately known as the “Golden Isles” due to its beautiful weather and sand. If you’re a fan of the beach lifestyle, then Summerville is a great place to live.

There’s so much to do, from enjoying a quiet stroll along the waterfront to visiting one of the local beaches. If you have a chance, I’d recommend checking out the local scene. You might find a great bar, or even an entire entertainment complex, with bars, beaches, and piers. Plus, there are quite a few historical sites and plantations for you to visit.

Next, Head To Rocky Point

After you’ve soaked up a bit of the local atmosphere in the “Golden Isles”, it’s time for a quick break. Your next stop should be Rocky Point, located just south of Summerville. On your way there, you’ll pass by the Charleston Naval & Maritime Museum.

The drive will take you through scenic parts of the coast and give you a chance to take a drive on the area’s beautiful sandy highways. When you reach Rocky Point, you’ll be in a perfect position to explore the area’s beautiful beaches, marshes, and sea islands.

From Rocky Point, Back To Summerville

Once you’ve visited the area’s beaches, it’s time to head back to Summerville. You’ll pass by another famous  United States Naval & Maritime Museum as you head back to town. The area is also home to the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, which is a magnificent sight to behold. Another great place to visit is the South Carolina Aquarium, located in the city.

Another draw is the Palmetto Brewing Company, which offers a truly unique experience. If you love seafood then the Fish Fry on the Wharf in Summerville is a must. And don’t forget about the Ravenelle Bridge, which is one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the country.

Heading North From Summerville

If you’ve driven this route in the opposite direction, from north to south, then you’ll be driving through some of the most beautiful countryside in the United States. Eventually, you’ll reach the North Charleston Airport. From there, take the I-526 South to I-20 East.

Traveling through Mount Pleasant and reaching the coast once more,  you’ll be treated to some beautiful views of the ocean as you make your way to your final destination. This is a fantastic route for a road trip, if you want to see some of the most recognizable American cities.
