Russian President Vladimir Putin has won two diplomatic victories this week.
In Hungary and Serbia, pro-Russian parties have won legislative elections. This victory indicates that Putin has some friends in Russia as well.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s nationalist Fidez party has won a landslide victory in the election. Hungary is a member of both the European Union and NATO. Putin can claim that he hates the two alliances the most: he has at least one friend there.
In his speech after winning the election, however, Victor Urban spoke not only of the European Union but also of Ukraine.
“We have a victory that can be seen from the moon, but we are not sure if it will be seen from Brussels,” he said. Fidez will remember this victory for the rest of our lives. Because we had to fight a war. There were a huge number of opponents. Opponents included Brussels bureaucrats, international media, and, in particular, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Putin immediately congratulated Urban on his victory. However, very few people believe that it will be much more than a symbolic victory. Hungary will not do anything that will affect the EU’s decision on Ukraine. Source: CNN
