Mount Puncak Jaya is known as the “Mt. Olympus of Borneo”. It is the highest peak in Sabah, Malaysia. The mountain is located in the province of Sabah, on the island of Borneo. The mountain was named after Dr. Richard Harrison Puncak, who was a geologist and explorer who explored this region in the early 19th century.

The mountain rises abruptly above Lake Tobas Pandanan as a majestic solitary cone. It is covered with snow during the winter and spring months. However, hikers should be aware that Mount Puncak Jaya’s summit is accessible only during the summer season- between May and October. Hikers must follow strict safety measures when climbing this mountain. They must wear proper mountaineering gear and boots and must have a guide to assist them. A permit is required to climb Mount Puncak Jaya, but permits are generally available on a first come, first served basis. During peak climbing seasons, hikers may have to wait several years for a permit to climb Mount Puncak Jaya.
