The Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, which is celebrated annually on April 2, deserves to be made non-working, said the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko in her telegram channel.
“It seems to me, I emphasize – this is my opinion – the day of unity of our peoples deserves to take a place in the calendar, not only as a holiday, but also as a non-working day,” Matvienko wrote. “Both in Russia and Belarus. After all, our citizens really have what celebrate”.
According to her, the holiday deserves to be on a par with such as the Day of Russia and the Day of National Unity.
The head of the upper house of parliament stressed that the Republic of Belarus is “not just a partner, but a reliable friend who you can always rely on.”
As the site kp.ru wrote earlier , Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus.
Putin stressed that recently the countries have done a lot to develop integration interaction and constructive bilateral cooperation. In particular, sectoral union programs, military doctrine and the concept of the migration policy of the Union State were signed.
Recall, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian and Belarusian leaders Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko have a unique relationship.
According to him, the heads of state have disagreements, during which they say unpleasant things to each other, but they defend the interests of their countries.
