MintSuite – Text From This Video
Welcom back to my channel today, everyone! I’m going to talk to you about my experiences with Mint Mobile. So please stay tuned, and I will explain in detail how it has worked out for me if you are interested or if you have seen the ads that I have. Hello and welcome to the damsel in distress, my name is Melissa Ford. Please like, subscribe, and press the bell to get notified when I post a new video on the channel where we talk about money.
OTO for MintSuite Local
I try to make sure I’m getting the best deal on all the services I pay for, and recently it occurred to me that I might be paying too much for my phone service. I thought it would be a good idea to try Mint Mobile after doing some research and seeing some of the ads. What exactly is Mint Mobile? Well, Mint Mobile is a brand-new, less expensive phone carrier that started in 2016. Also, a few people in the fire community have told me that the service is very similar to that of any other major phone provider. The price is both the most important and interesting thing about Mint Mobile. Right now, their prices are very low; by contrast, I pay about $70 a month for four gigabytes of data through AT&T. Here are the current rates for Mint Mobile. At the time I’m making this video, a monthly plan with three gigabytes costs ten dollars for eight gigabytes and twenty dollars for twelve gigabytes. It costs $25 per month, or $30 per month if you want unlimited data. You can imagine that when I saw these prices, I was both very interested and a little nervous because I liked the coverage I had at the time, but it was cheaper than what I pay now for unlimited data. So I signed up for it, and yep. Since I like listening to audiobooks and would rather have access to them anywhere than just at home, I decided to spend a little more and get the unlimited plan. I also enjoy being able to stream content while I’m on the go without worrying about how it will affect me.

I would feel so much better if I had my data. So, I chose the unlimited plan. I thought, Huh. I’m only spending about half what I used to. So, why not treat myself? And, to be honest, with only a $10 difference between what I had, which was a four-gig plan, and what would put me on their eight-gig plan at $20 per month, why not treat myself? I didn’t see much difference between that and unlimited data, but if you really wanted to save money, you might choose the $15 plan and save even more now. You should be aware that those prices for Mint Mobile do not include a phone. Also, when you sign up for Mint Mobile service, you have to pay for three months in advance, which is how they price their plans. You don’t really pay month to month like you did with your old carrier because they sell the plans in three-, six-, and 12-month chunks. But if you can, paying three months at a time will save you money in the long run. Only if you pay for a year in advance can you get the lowest prices. So, if you just pay for three months in advance, it will cost more, but it will still be cheaper than other plans from other carriers. It’s a lot less than it would have been at first because I’m just trying this out. I also chose the three-month plan, which raises my price to $40 per month for unlimited service, but that’s still less than half of what I was paying AT&T. Of course, that depends on whether or not it works and whether or not the coverage is good. I’ll be testing that out over the next month to see how it goes right now. I’m not sure right now if the costs I mentioned don’t also include the price of your phone. If you don’t buy your phone outright, you’ll probably have to stick to the terms of the contract you have with your current carrier. Unless there’s a way—I’ve never heard of this, but it might be possible—that you can return your phone and get out of the contract, you’ll have to see it through to the end before you can try another carrier. Mobile Mint. It also has a way to buy a plan if you don’t own a phone yet. According to their website, these plans range from $30 to $60 per month for phones, but you don’t have to buy one. I’m not sure if you also have to pay for that in three-month installments or if the agreement is truly month-to-month. Another thing to remember about Mint Mobile is that if you keep using your current phone, you must put a new SIM card in it. Now, as part of your plan, they give you a SIM card and send you these useful small envelopes with the things you need. So, it contains: This has already been opened, and when I did, I sort of tore it. Hopefully, though, the idea is still clear. This small package contains a tiny tool, which is what was sent. I’m not sure if you can see it, but it’s incredibly easy to take out your current phone’s sim card, and it also comes with this tiny card here. [Applause], where this small gap sort of hides the sim card. So, sure, do you see that? They do have some tech support videos that show you how, and they also send you a tiny envelope with some suggestions written on it. So that’s where the sim card is, and you just pop it out and put it into your phone. I actually filmed myself watching these movies to show you the steps you need to take, but it made for a very long video. Please let me know in the comments below if you would want to see that as a separate movie, and I will come back. In the future, I’m Melissa, and I’m here to tell you about my experiences with Mint Mobile. I know I said I’d check in on this in about a month, but it’s been about four months. Because of this, I’ve been delaying the release of this film while putting more emphasis on the release of other videos. But I think four months is enough time to test out Mint Mobile and report my results, which, to be honest, are quite good. But I’m going to give you a few examples where it wasn’t quite as good as a T service. I’ll use when my sister and I went camping a few months ago as an example. We were on the beach in a somewhat isolated part of a state park, and I didn’t have a very good signal there. It was maybe five miles or more from the nearest town, I don’t know. I don’t know how my signal would have been if AT&T had been my service provider, but I can say that my sister’s service was more reliable. She managed to make a connection. She was around more often than I was, but not by much, so our connection was sporadic. Who needs self-service when you are camping? I had a less reliable connection, which was a little annoying, but you know, you’re camping. Next, I’ll say that even though I live in a big city, there are some parts of town where my bars are really low. I guess I didn’t quite expect that to be the case, but I’ll just show up wherever at random. It has never stopped me from doing anything I needed to do in my big city, where I only had one or two bars, which seems kind of strange to me. Even with one or two bars, I can still make a phone call if I need to. Even when I only have one or two bars, I’ve been able to watch YouTube videos on my phone, and my favorite activity, listening to podcasts, works just fine. I have been able to use iTunes while traveling to download things and listen to music.

Using Mint Mobile hasn’t changed any of that, though, as I said, there are times when I feel like I shouldn’t have so few bars, but I do, and, as I said, it doesn’t really bother me. Also, Mobile deserves some praise for something they did that I didn’t expect but is really great. I got a message that said, “Yeah, Ryan Reynolds Owen Smith Mobile, so Ryan Reynolds Records, the messages you get from Mint Mobile,” and it was from Ryan Reynolds himself. That’s kind of interesting, right? In any case, that’s kind of funny, and Ryan Reynolds was kind enough to tell me personally that I wasn’t using enough data to qualify for an unlimited plan. They suggested that I downgrade my plan and pay less. What other business have you dealt with where they said, “Hey, you’re not using our services to the fullest?” Why not switch to a less expensive plan? That really impressed me. That seems really moral to me. Thanks to Mitt Mobile, it’s above and beyond ethical because, you know, they’re losing money because I’m doing it, but that’s what they told me to do. I really liked it, so overall, I have to say that I’m happy with Mint Mobile, especially given the price difference. I used to pay about $70 a month to AT&T, so my current payment of about $40 a month is definitely not enough to cover an extra $57 in service costs. To me, that is just not worth it. This is not a big sacrifice. I can live without my phone when I go camping and with a few weak spots in my city. So, I wholeheartedly support them. I think the service is great, and I think anyone who pays more than $40 per month for unlimited data should give it a try. They also have much cheaper plans, but since I started with this one, it’s the one I’m still using. In the future, I’ll probably change it and make it even cheaper, but for now, I’m just happy. You might wonder, given the value I get for the money I spend, “Did I get paid to do this video and give them a good review?” No, is the reply. This is entirely my own opinion. For this video, Mint Mobile did not pay me.
