Opposition groups called for the arrest of former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. They made the demand on charges of inciting violence against a peaceful anti-government movement.

Former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa left the Temple Tree on Tuesday morning in the face of widespread protests.

Earlier, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was in deep financial crisis, resigned amid widespread protests. He accepted the resignation letter sent by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Monday.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is the younger brother of Prime Minister Mahinda. Opposition parties in Sri Lanka have been blaming the country’s worst financial crisis since independence.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections.

So far, six people have been killed and more than 200 injured in the violence. There have also been incidents of setting fire to the homes of several politicians.
