PM Narendra Modi on his birthday launched the Sardar Sarovar Dam – world’s second-biggest dam. The foundation stone of the dam was laid on April 5, 1961, by the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The foundation was on the River Narmada in Gujrat. And nearly six decades later, PM Narendra Modi dedicated the dam to citizens.
The inauguration of the project was scratched by protests and disagreements accords with the PM’s 67th birthday. Before the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi met his mother Heeraben Modi at her home in Gandhinagar.
“Tomorrow Sardar Sarovar Dam will be conferred to the country. For this, PM Narendra Modi left a tweet on Saturday saying “This project will benefit lakhs of farmers and help fulfill people’s aspirations”.

While today Morning, the poor weather made PM to take-off in Ahmedabad from where he progressed by road to Kevadia in Narmada district to inaugurate the dam.
Significance of Sardar Sarovar Dam
Despite the PM, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also says it will ease Gujarat’s agriculture revenue and production increases by more than 200%.
After the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in the US state of Washington, Sardar Sarovar dam will be the world’s second biggest dam dwelled in Gujrat.
Narmada Bachao Andolan, a social movement in 1996 made the Supreme Court visit its development over environmental and restoration concerns.
Supreme court passed the order for construction in October 2000. The dam’s height was as of late raised to 138.68 meters. With this measurement, the damn will allow the storage of nearly 4.73 million acre-feet of water.
PM Modi will travel to Sadhu Bet after dedicating the dam to citizens and the state. He will then assess the current progress performed in the ‘Statue of Unity’ project.
He will later attend the closing commemoration of Narmada Mahotsav. He will also visit some other events and approach an unrestricted gathering in Saurashtra Amreli.
On the occasion of Modi’s birthday, the BJP will celebrate Seva Diwas across the country. BJP leaders will visit medical campsites, blood donation events, and cleanliness activities.
