The Polish government has approved a draft law banning the import of coal from Russia. It was approved by the country’s cabinet on Tuesday, local time. Reuters news agency quoted Polish government cabinet spokesman Pietro Mueller as saying.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The European Union has imposed a number of sanctions on Russia since the start of the Russian operation in Ukraine on February 24. Poland has been urging the alliance to include Russia’s fossil fuels in the sanctions list. However, without imposing sanctions, the EU has chosen to gradually reduce its dependence on Russian gas. In such a situation, Poland alone has taken steps to ban the import of Russian coal.

On Tuesday, Piotr M মller, a spokesman for the Polish government’s cabinet, said: “We do not want these imports to continue for long. However, we understand that the European Union has not taken any such action to date, leaving us at risk.

According to EU rules, if a member state wants to impose sanctions on anyone, it must be approved by the whole alliance. The EU has the power to punish member states for their unilateral actions.
