Some public universities are not focused on achieving standards because they do not have to earn money, said the Minister of Education. Dipu Moni. He was speaking at the convocation of East West University on Tuesday (May 10).

.........

Calling on the universities, the education minister said, “This situation needs to change. In order to achieve our standards in higher education, we have to take ourselves to the world. ‘

Speaking at the convocation as the President’s representative, Dipu Moni said, “Education is the main tool to achieve our goals and meet the challenges.” We are preparing to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and implement them as much as we can. We have formulated a plan to implement Bended Education for Human Resource Development in the coming days. Initiatives have been taken to include digital security and soft skills in the curriculum. Minimum guidelines for recruitment and promotion of teachers in higher education have been formulated. Teacher training is also being arranged.

Calling on the universities of the country, the Minister of Education further said, “I would humbly say to all the universities that the students of the university should take literature, history, philosophy and ICT courses in whatever subject they are studying.” In particular, literature and philosophy should be taught in all universities, otherwise the university becomes a polytechnic. Please consider (the university authorities). ‘

The education minister said it was more important to achieve quality than higher enrollment of students in higher education. Most of the universities are in unhealthy competition to increase the number of students without considering their capacity. I can see the direct evil in this. There are so many students being admitted, there is no place to stay, there is no place to play, there is no place for cultural activities. Universities are the seat of knowledge practice and knowledge creation. ‘

Dipu Moni said that some private universities are giving priority to business interests instead of pursuing knowledge. On the other hand, some public universities are not focused on achieving such standards as they do not have to earn money. This situation must change. In order to achieve our standards in higher education, we have to take ourselves to the world level.
