Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 to Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi at Jorasansko, Calcutta, India. He belonged to a Hindu Bengali Family. He was the youngest of thirteen children. His mother Sarada Devi died when he was a child and his father Debendranath Tagore used to travel a lot.
Rabindranath Tagore was raised by their servants. His elder brother Dwijendranath was an Indian poet and philosopher. Rabindranath Tagore’s other brother was the first Indian to be appointed to the Indian Civil Service.
