BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government’s knee-jerk foreign policy is seeking India’s cooperation in lifting US sanctions on RAB.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting at the Iftar party of the Nationalist Youth Party at Eskaton Ladies Club in Dhaka on Wednesday.
“The situation today is that the United States has imposed sanctions for human rights abuses,” he said. Today, the most urgent need was to dismiss the officials involved in the misdeeds and take legal action against them. Instead, the government’s foreign minister today said he would seek India’s help in this matter.
“No matter how incompetent, no matter how unsuccessful, no matter how knee-jerk this government is today, they are seeking help from India without taking any action against those institutions.”
The United States has banned RAB and seven former and current members of the force, alleging serious human rights abuses.
The government is trying in various ways to break this ban. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said they had sought India’s cooperation in lifting the ban.
Speaking at the Iftar function, Fakhrul also condemned the accusation of BNP leaders in the case of clash between Dhaka College students and shopkeepers in New Market area.
He said, “Chhatra League involved in the clash is a proven fact. No action was taken against them in this case. Instead, BNP leaders and activists have been arrested and false cases have been filed. ”
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman also spoke on the occasion from London. Eid gifts were also given on behalf of the families of the ‘disappeared’ leaders and activists of the party.
BNP leaders Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman, Shahjahan Omar, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Ahmed Azam Khan and Zainul Abdin Faruk addressed the discussion. BNP leaders Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Mortazul Karim Badru of Juba Dal and SM Jahangir were present on the occasion.
Leaders of opposition parties including BNP have taken part in the Iftar of Citizens Unity led by Mahmudur Rahman Manna.
BNP leaders Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Abdul Awal Mintu, Shama Obaid, Zafir Uddin Mofur’s Mosfa took part in the iftar at the White House restaurant in Rajarbagh on Wednesday. Rob, Reza Kibria of the People’s Rights Council, Saiful Haque of the Revolutionary Workers Party, Jonaid Saki of the People’s Solidarity Movement, Redwan Ahmed of the LDP, Shahadat Hossain Selim, Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan of the JSD, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Babul of the Bhasani Followers Council Jagpar Khandaker Lutfur Rahman, Nurul Amin dealer of alternative style.
However, no one from Jamaat-e-Islami was invited to the iftar.
Speaking on the occasion of Iftar, Khandaker Musharraf said, “The topic of today’s discussion is not elections under this government. We also agree with this. I want to add more to this, and not this government. It is not an election under the present government, it is time not to tell the government about the current situation in the country. ”
JSD President ASM Rabb said, “We are clear that no election will be fair under this government. That is why there is no alternative way for the movement to remove them. However, after the departure of this government, we have to decide under which government elections will be held.
“That government must be a government that can hold free and fair elections. That’s why JSD thinks there is a need for a national government. “
“Don’t call elections under this government,” Manna said at the conference. What will this government look like? Some say national government, some say caretaker government, some say caretaker government.
“From this, the media is trying to spread confusion among the people that they do not agree with the next government, they will not be united. We want to send a message to them that no matter what we call it, we want an interim government that can make the next election easy, transparent and acceptable.
