Rumana Islam has joined the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) as the first woman commissioner. Today, Sunday, he joined his new workplace. Prior to joining BSEC, Rumana Islam was a Professor in the Faculty of Law, Dhaka University.
BSEC Executive Director and Spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim has confirmed the joining of the new commissioner in the first light. Appointed by the Ministry of Finance before joining the new workplace.
The five-member commission comprising the chairman and four commissioners of the BSEC had a vacancy for more than a year. The last time Khandaker Kamaluzzaman, the acting commissioner of the law department, retired was in March last year.
It is learned that Rumana Islam was the first woman commissioner of BSEC since its formation in June 1993. As a result of his joining, four members of the five-member commission came from Dhaka University to be the regulators of the capital market. All of them were in teaching profession before joining BSEC. The rest of the commission is a former government secretary.
With the joining of Rumana Islam, the vacant post of Commissioner of BSEC has been filled. Rumana Islam graduated from Dhaka University with a bachelor’s degree and received a higher degree from the United Kingdom. In 2006 he joined the Faculty of Law of Dhaka University.
