Together with Saint-Gobain India, the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Kancheepuram will provide merit scholarships to female students enrolled in the BTech programme.
With a donation of Rs 2.29 crore and an eight-year commitment, Saint-Gobain India will finance the education of 40 female students. The institution states that a total of 20 will be kept each year.
The MoU was formed with the intention of enticing female students to enrol in BTech programmes in mechanical, electrical, and computer science, among other fields.
A committee made up of IIITDM Kancheepuram academics and Saint Gobain employees will choose the students. The top five accepted candidates whose parents make less than Rs 10 lakh will be chosen by the committee. Academic achievement and parental wealth are taken into account while awarding the scholarship each year.
The Indian government is making every effort to increase the number of female students enrolled in all levels of education, especially higher education. The overall enrollment of female students in higher education has been steadily rising throughout the years, according to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE). Giving out additional scholarships is one of the solutions the government has even advocated, and its adoption is anticipated to increase the number of female students enrolled at IIITDM Kancheepuram.
According to Prof. DVLN Somayajulu, Director of IIITDM Kancheepuram, this institute intends to engage other local businesses about establishing a similar scholarship programme for female students.
