A pre-scheduled meeting of Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee was held on Saturday, according to Gulf News, a Middle East-based news outlet. After reviewing, the authorities said that they could not see the Shawwal moon in the Saudi sky.
Another Middle Eastern country, the United Arab Emirates, has also reported no moon sighting in the month of Shawwal. The UAE Moon Sighting Committee said in a statement that the holy month of Ramadan is coming to an end on Sunday, the 30th of Ramadan. However, the International Astronomical Center (IAC) in Abu Dhabi had earlier said that Middle Eastern countries were not likely to see the holy Shawwal moon on Saturday (April 30).
Shawwal is the next month of Ramadan according to the Arabic calendar. The Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr the next day when the moon of Shawwal is seen after a month of continuous fasting. In Bangladesh, Eid is usually celebrated one day after Saudi Arabia.
