Quepos is the center of the Central Pacific region, from the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula to Drake bay. It is known for its quantities of Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, and Tuna. And if you like to catch a Sailfish on a fly – come to Quepos!!
Sailfish are known for jumping out of the water and tail-walking the region is well protected from the winds and so enjoys a year-round season for a wide variety of inshore species. You will find immense populations of Snapper, Roosterfish, Wahoo, Mackeral, Jack Crevalle, and monster Snook at the reefs, river mouth, and estuaries on the coasts. Billfishing normally peaks from late December through April.
Areas best known for its Wahoo, big Cubera, and Roosterfish. But there are also Tuna, Dorado, Sails, and the occasional Marlin. You will enjoy these seldom-fished waters at the gateway to Corcovado National Park, overnighting at one of the several lodges centered around Drake Bay.
As the Sailfish and Marlin begin to move north, we follow them to Flamingo beach on the coast of Guanacaste Province. This area is famous for Pacific Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Dolphin, Cubera, Snapper, Yellowfin, and Big Eye Tuna.

Inaugurated in February 2001, Los Suenos Marina is the cornerstone of our resort community. Nestled in the protective, horseshoe-shaped Herradura Bay, our Marina is perfectly situated not only for fishing within the bountiful waters directly in front of our resort but also provides quick access to the well-known fishing regions of Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast, including Quepos and Cabo Blanco.
Los Sueños Marina is home to Costa Rica Fishing Experts offering sportfishing trips and accommodations, with experienced, English speaking captains and crew. Costa Rica’s waters literally teem with big game: mahi-mahi averaging 40 pounds, yellowfin tuna that push the 300-pound mark, and one of the largest concentrations of big Pacific sailfish – as well as blue, black, and striped marlin – found anywhere.
In fact, Costa Rica boasts one of the healthiest billfish fisheries in the world, with 20-fish days being a common occurrence. Unusually calm waters and short rides to the fishing grounds place Costa Rica at the top of the big game fishing destinations.
