What is this Game About?

Released in 1995 by Konami, Suikoden is loosely based on the classic Chinese story Water Margin. Several sequels and spin-offs came after that, with the general themes of mystic crystals, corruption, and the stars of destiny among the most interesting aspects of the games.

The games in the series are all placed in the same virtual world and while the timeline can be confusing, it’s basically about a set of overlapping stories with the same characters popping up in different games. The last new game came out in 2012, although there have been some re-releases since then.

What Games will Be Coming Next?

A game called Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has already been confirmed for release in 2023. While it’s not a direct successor to Suikoden, it’s been made by the same team and it seems to follow in this game’s footsteps in terms of gameplay and imagery.

At the Game Show in Tokyo, it was revealed that the original Suikoden and Suikoden 2 are both going to be remastered for the current generation of consoles as well. They’ll be packed together in a single collection with the name of Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars.

This collection will be made available for the Nintendo Switch, Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, with improved sound and backgrounds among the enhancements made. The developers at Konami are also said to be keen to create more games in the series in the future.

Part of a Trend for Classics to Return

This wasn’t the only classic game that Konami mentioned in Tokyo. They also pointed out that they plan to revive some of their other older games like Star Soldier, TwinBee, and Parodius. The gaming market has a lot of examples like this right now, with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Remastered, and SiN: Reloaded among the remastered games due out soon.

Classic casino games like roulette are also popular now, with simple gameplay and fast action among the top reasons why they’re sought-after. By looking at the strategies commonly used when playing roulette, we can see that fully understanding the mechanics of the game is crucial. This is what can help tilt the balance in favor of the player.

This desire to revive classics is present in the table game genre too, with much-loved games like Settlers of Catan and Libertalia among the games to receive enhanced versions for us to enjoy. In the case of table games going online, this approach often includes using the latest technology to enhance the player experience in ways such as virtual reality.

The return of the Suikoden series is sure to delight existing fans, and it should help to attract a new generation of players to it as well.
