The local UP chairman went to Noakhali’s Senbagh to stop the tension caused by the harassment of two teenagers who were going to take a bath at the pond. He was also attacked. His car was vandalized. Besides, the houses of the teenagers have been vandalized. Police have arrested four people in the incident. However, the fugitives are harassing.
The incident took place in Nabipur Union of the upazila from noon to 8:30 pm on Tuesday. At that time, the local residents arrested the four attackers. Upon receiving the news, the police of Senbagh police station went to the spot and brought the situation under control and took the detainees to the police station. The arrested persons are Antar alias Alauddin (19), Tipu alias Ramzan Ali (24), Abdul Gani alias Parvez (25) and Imran Hossain alias Shant (20).
The UP chairman was attacked while handling the incident of harassment
Speaking to police and locals, it is learned that two teenagers went to bathe in the pond of their house around 2 pm on Tuesday. At the same time in the same area. Robi (20) teased the teenagers. Robbie tore the clothes of one of the teenagers. The girl’s mother immediately informed UP Chairman Belayet Hossain and a local UP member about the incident. Then the family of a teenager went to the UP chairman’s office and reported the incident. On the advice of Chairman Belayet Hossain, the girl’s mother informed the matter by calling 999 in front of him. The woman also spoke to the police. But the police did not come to the spot immediately. The chairman sent UP member Abdus Sobhan and a village policeman to the spot to handle the situation. Later, he himself went to the spot around 8 pm. He scolded the harassers and slapped Robbie into his car.
Witnesses said Robbie was arrested and his associates attacked the chairman and his car. The glass of the car was broken and the chairman was hit in the left eye and his forehead was shattered. Besides, his nephew Nazrul Islam, who was with the chairman, was also injured. He was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital. Later, the villagers united and chased and arrested four of the attackers. Sharp weapons and sticks were recovered from them at that time. However, the harassing Robbie fled.
Chairman Belayet Hossain told Prothom Alo that he had informed Sub-Inspector (SI) Habibur Rahman and Abdul Awal of Senbagh Police Station about the harassment and attack on the house of the teenagers but they did not come to the spot on time. This makes the situation worse. Later, when he went to the spot, he was also attacked.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Senbagh Police Station Iqbal Hossain Patwari told Prothom Alo that the incident of harassment and vandalism in the house was caused due to the incident of molestation of the teenager. The UP chairman went there to rule and slapped some people. He picked up a man named Robbie in his car. Then the chairman and his car were attacked.
OC Iqbal Hossain said that the father of a teenager had filed a case with the police against the incident of harassment. Four people have been arrested in the incident. The arrested persons were sent to the court on Wednesday afternoon.
