The war in Ukraine is unacceptable, unrealistic: Guterres

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called the ongoing war in Ukraine “unacceptable and unreasonable in the 21st century.” The UN chief told reporters during a visit to the devastated cities and towns around Kiev, the capital of war-torn Ukraine.

Guterres spoke to reporters in Borodianka, northwest of Kiev. During a visit to Buchate, near Kiev, he visited a mass grave behind a church.

There, the UN Secretary-General said, “When you come here, you will realize how important it is for a thorough investigation and accountability. ‘
‘I fully support the International Criminal Court. I urge the Russian Federation to cooperate with the ICC (International Criminal Court). But when we talk about war crimes, let’s not forget that the worst crime is war itself. ‘

The places visited by Antonio Guterres were occupied by Russian troops for several weeks in March. Ukraine alleges that there have been massacres of civilians in addition to heavy bombings and shelling. In addition to human corpses, some mass graves were found on the sidewalks after the Russian troops left. In all, at least several hundred people are thought to have been killed in cities on the outskirts of the capital.
