The iconic Big Ben clock tower is very famous and popular among many tourists who come to London. Big Ben is a 150-year-old 13-ton bell built into a tower and is a sight to behold. The clock is named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who was the first commissioner of works in London and was also a civil engineer. He was the one who ordered it.

3. Buckingham Palace

Buckingham is one of the most relevant palaces to visit on your trip to London. The palace is the house of the British Royal Family and the leader of the United Kingdom. The palace came into existence in  1703 when it was built for the Duck of Buckingham. The ownership of the palace was later, in 1761, transferred to King George III after he purchased the house for his wife, Queen Charlotte. It was later enlarged and in 1837, during the Victorian era, it became the permanent resident of the British monarchy.

4. Tower Bridge 

You can’t visit London without going to see the historic Tower Bridge. The tower was built as a suspension bridge to create essay access to the busy East End of London. It took eight years, five civil engineers and over 400 workers to create this masterpiece before it opened in 1994. You can recognize the Tower bridge by its 213 feet tower that is above the River Thames.

5. Tower of London

6. London Eye

Known as the tallest wheel in Europe, the London eye is said to be the most paid tourist attraction in the city with over 3 million people paying to get on it every year and has won many awards for its engineering achievements and tourism attraction. 

You can see the London Eye on the south bank of the River Thames standing tall. It’s 443 feet high and has a diameter of 394 meters. The wheel was designed to run slowly so people would be able to move to ground level if they wanted to.

7. St Paul’s Cathedral 

With its outstanding architecture, St Paul’s Cathedral is one of the most popular and biggest churches in the city. After the first building was destroyed in a fire in 1666, it was rebuilt into what we know as the cathedral today in  1708, designed by Christopher Wren.
