Step 1: First, you need to disconnect your Netgear router and modem.

Step 2: Then, you have to unplug your modem first and wait for some time.

Step 3: After a couple of minutes, unplug your Netgear router as well.

Step 4: A few moments later, turn on your modem.

Step 5: Wait for a couple of minutes and then plug in your Netgear router.

Are you still getting Netgear router internet light amber issue? Chances are that you have used incorrect router default login password to connect to the internet. Maybe due to this (use of incorrect password), you are unable to connect to the internet or access the router’s default IP. Is that is the reason? Please verify!

You see, this has happened to me once. Me to have a Netgear router and have experienced the same issue i.e. Netgear router internet light amber issue. So, I restarted my devices in the same way I mentioned above. After that, I was still getting the same issue. I was wondering, I am I getting so? I was really worried! So, I thought that maybe I am entering the incorrect router login password to connect to the internet.

And see, I got the actual reason behind the issue. Yes, I was entering incorrect password to connect to the internet. But, for some time, the things were going good, then again the internet LED flashing in amber color.

Contact Your Service Provider

Your internet service provider! Yes, you read it right! ISP can be the culprit behind the issue. Maybe you are not getting the actual internet speed you are paying for and due to that you are getting the amber light issue on your Netgear router.

So, what you have to do is to ask him to clear all your pending internet bills and upgrade your data plan as well.

If you find that nothing is getting fixed from your ISP end, you can replace his device i.e. the modem with Netgear. Trust me, Netgear modems are outstanding and they work well with Netgear router.

I was also not in favor of replacing my modem, but I have no choice. After upgrading my internet plan and clearing all the pending bills, a couple of months later, I was getting the same issue all over again and again. Then, one of my colleagues suggested me to do so. Firstly, I didn’t obey her (the colleague) decision, then when I realize that it was for my betterment, I replaced it (the modem) with Netgear modem.

Please consider this just a suggestion! If you don’t want to go with it, just skip this tip and try the last one.

Configure Your Router

You might be getting amber internet LED on your Netgear router if it hasn’t been configured successfully. So, ensure the same, I mean ensure to configure your router properly to get the good internet connection.

Just in case, you aren’t sure that you have configured your Netgear router in a proper way or not, simply reset it. After resetting Netgear router, visit the Netgear router setup wizard using 192.168.0.1 IP or www.routerlogin.net web address for complete configuration instructions.

Once your Netgear router gets configured, update its firmware first.

Note: Keep updating the latest firmware version on your Netgear router whenever available. Bear in mind – while updating the Netgear router firmware, I personally suggest, do not interrupt the process in between. Just leave your router! Don’t do anything to it or use it.
