Ukrainian forces retake Irpin, a suburb of Kiev, from Russian forces. This was demanded by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported the news in a report.

Zelensky also said that Russian forces were still in control of areas north of Kiev.

“The occupiers have been evacuated from Irpin and Kiev,” he said in a video message on Monday night. However, Russian forces are still in control of areas north of Kiev. They have resources and manpower. They are trying to rebuild their destroyed units.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia are holding face-to-face talks in Turkey again on Wednesday. The talks are being held at a time when the advance of Russian forces in Ukraine has stalled. After besieging the capital Kiev and failing to mobilize government forces, Russia’s defense ministry said last week it was focusing on expanding separatist-held territory in eastern Ukraine.

Kiev has indicated that Russian forces are facing stiff resistance in Ukraine, inflicting heavy casualties. They are in a strategic and logistical crisis. In that sense, it is possible Moscow could agree to a compromise, given the dream of a new government in Kiev.

Both sides are talking about a possible way to end the war. Under which Ukraine may take a kind of formal neutral position. But no one has yet backed down from the territorial claims of Donbass and the Crimea region occupied by Moscow in 2014.

Thousands of people have been killed in Russia’s offensive in Ukraine since February 24. More than one crore people have left their homes. About 4 million people have fled the country and taken refuge abroad.
