You can choose different options for blinds such as sunscreen blinds or whatever type of blind you want to create options for your window coverings. But you also have other options to achieve night and day covering such as window tinting or curtains. There are a lot of options, looks and materials to create combinations you find to give you the kind of light you want in the day and the privacy you want at night while also handling things like glare.

Understanding tints and coatings

The glass itself in the window can be a part of the solution as there are some options when it comes to the application of different coatings and films. These can be added to the glass at the time it is being made. As well as adding desirable properties to the glass it can also add different colours. The coatings are made up of metal oxides and then coatings called low emissivity or low-e. These then help to lessen radiant heat transfer which means it blocks some or even all of the IR wavelengths. This is a highly effective way of protecting your home, furnishings and yourself from daylight. You can also look at designs where the light is reflected so that you can see out from inside, but people outside cannot see in. It is a good way to get privacy!

Exploring blinds as your choice of covering

For many years people have been using blinds, including day and night blinds to block out some of the light during the day and then give privacy when they want it. You can get aluminium blinds, wooden blinds, faux wood blinds, material blinds, plastic, bamboo and more. You can get them in all kinds of colours and lools and different sizes too. Some can be motorised, some are sunscreen blinds and some are great for completely blocking out the light. If you want low maintenance, you can choose one of the materials that are easy to wipe down and do not need a lot of care. For more humid rooms like the bathrooms and kitchen, you can get materials that can handle that.

Why curtains are a common choice

One of the oldest and most popular window coverings is curtains. You could have day and night blinds on their own on the window or you could do a combination with some kind of curtain, or you could only choose curtains. Curtains come in a lot of different shapes, colours, patterns and styles so they can go in any home. Whether you prefer something lacy and complicated or something easy and more minimalist it is up to you. Pleating is one option that creates a great uniform look and is perfect if you want a more formal-looking room. Curtains can go in any room, just make sure you know how to properly clean them and take them down and put them back up again!
