Eating healthily is not always easy. We live in a society full of quick, unhealthy options. Although staying healthy can be achieved without any kind of mechanical intervention, some technology has been designed with healthy eating specifically in mind. Here are 4 of the most innovative healthy eating technologies.

Air Fryers

An air fryer uses extremely hot air to ‘fry’ food as opposed to oil. An electrical heating element is positioned above a fan, which forces the hot air down onto the food below. The rapid circulation of the hot air around the food makes it crip – just like food that has been fried in oil. The vegetable oils typically used for frying are relatively healthy sources of fat, but excessive consumption of them is still very bad for you. Air fryers allow you to enjoy the great pleasure of eating fried food without consuming a huge quantity of oil.

Smoothie Blitzers

Smoothies are only as healthy as the food that goes into them, but with enough care, a person can feed themselves very healthily by including blitzed fruit in their diet. Smoothie blitzers are essentially small blenders, usually with an easily detachable cup-shaped lid. Making a healthy smoothie only takes a few seconds and can be an incredibly refreshing and vitamin-rich way of starting the day. A smoothie-only diet is not recommended: balance is key.

Fat Draining Fryers

Frying naturally creates a great deal of liquid fat as food changes chemically when exposed to heat. Fat draining fryers are a rather simple solution to the pools of fat that can form during frying. They are griddles that are positioned at a slanted angle, allowing excess fat to run down the gutters of the griddle into a pan beneath. The excess fat that has drained from the griddle can either be chucked out (if you feel healthy) or used for cooking (if you don’t). Two-time heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Big George Foreman famously lent his name to a successful brand of fat-draining fryers. Big George probably needed all the fat he could get to maintain his vast physique during his prime, however.

Smart Fork

Thought that the fork couldn’t get any smarter? The fork had changed little since biblical times: until now. Smart forks are a technological solution to an oft-faced problem. People don’t tend to feel full until a few minutes after they have finished eating. This means that many people eat so much in one sitting as to feel bloated and uncomfortable. Overeating can be taxing on the body in the long term, too.

This new generation of cutlery connects to your smartphone or tablet – collecting data about your eating habits and warning you when you have had a portion bordering on the indigestible. As with many smart devices, smart forks only really work when they have been able to collect a sufficient quantity of data about their user.
