Highlighting 14 days of road accidents around Eid, the company said in a report that the most notable feature of the Eid procession this time was the widespread use of motorcycles, which had never been seen before.

Describing the issue as “worrying”, the report said on Thursday that 36 people were killed and at least 1,500 injured in 263 road accidents across the country in the 14 days from April 25 to May 6.

Of these, 157 people died in 127 motorcycle accidents. As a result, 45.22 percent of the total accidents are caused by motorcycles. And 41.46 percent of the total deaths occurred in these two-wheeler accidents.

The report was published by the Road Safety Foundation based on reports from nine national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.

It has been said that this time around 9 million people have gone to other districts from Dhaka for Eid Yatra. About 30 million people have traveled within the country. This time the use of motorcycle was more than other years to return home.

Half of the drivers and riders killed in these motorcycle accidents (51.42%) are between 14 and 20 years of age. The Road Safety Foundation observes that reckless motorcycling by teenagers can lead to accidents and endanger others.
According to the report, the government is providing various facilities for the production and import of motorcycles, as a result of which the use of motorcycles in the country is increasing at a huge rate.

“It simply came to our notice then. Going to trade motorcycles worth Tk 5,000 crore a year is costing people Tk 15,000 crore.

The government should make public transport better, easier and more affordable and discourage motorcycles by controlling traffic congestion in the capital. Strict legal measures should be taken to prevent minors from riding motorcycles. ”

According to the report, after analyzing the type of motorcycle accident, 16.19 per cent collided head-on with another vehicle, 41.95 per cent lost control of the motorbike, 39.24 per cent due to collision / collision with another vehicle and 39.04 per cent due to other vehicle collision. Percent.

During Eid-ul-Fitr last year, 134 people were killed in 121 motorcycle accidents.

Motorcycles are ’30 times more risky’ than four-wheelers, the report said. So motorcycles can never be a substitute for public transport in long distance travel.

According to the report, most of the accidents that did not result in casualties during the Eid procession did not come to the notice of the media, due to which the actual picture of the injured in the accident is not known.
