Introduction

For almost two decades, the Adani Foundation has worked to build long-term opportunities for neglected communities, benefiting 3.4 million lives and more. As an integral component of Gautam Adani’s Adani Group, the Foundation’s journey symbolizes the essence of responsible corporate governance and uncompromising zeal for sustainability.

Today, it serves 2,315 villages in 18 Indian states by providing high-quality schooling, long-term financial development, encouraging a healthy community, and developing rural amenities. The Foundation also carries out four specific projects, namely Saksham, Swachhagraha, SuPoshan, and Udaan, in addition to these four basic areas.

What are the four exceptional initiatives?

SAKSHAM

‘SAKSHAM’ is Gautam Adani’s Adani Skill Development Centre that aims to render the youth of India ‘SAKSHAM’ (capable) of accomplishing their life objectives by becoming competent professionals. This philosophy has no bounds or limitations. SAKSHAM collaborates with enterprises and other organizations to deliver world-class skill development training to India.

The mission is to provide applicants with a transformative educational opportunity by closing the industry skill gap while establishing an environment that encourages the unrestricted transfer of thoughts, where research, ingenuity, creative thinking, and entrepreneurial endeavors can flourish while providing a sustainable livelihood.

Swachhagraha

Swachhagraha, which aims to establish an enduring culture of cleanliness, is inspired by “Satyagraha,” the largest and most successful popular movement our country has ever witnessed. By inspiring young people to participate in society and develop into leaders actively, it seeks to advance the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan of the nation. It gives people a platform to act and empower others in the community.

SuPoshan

SuPoshan is an innovative initiative that unites the Adani Foundation’s three main areas of focus—education, health, and the creation of sustainable livelihoods. It aims to reduce anaemia and malnutrition in women of reproductive maturity, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children aged 0 to 5.

This turns out practical by preparing SuPoshan Sanginis to knock on doors and work as true companions in maintaining the community’s well-being. SuPoshan Sangini is a village health volunteer who fosters changed behaviours, suggestions, and awareness among the target groups to meet project goals.

Project Udaan

Project Udaan contributes to educational circles by introducing experiential learning in an era where education mostly relates to the pages of a school textbook and the confines of the classroom. The initiative keeps the young aspirants of India moving along a conveyor belt that runs from desire to motivation and, ultimately, from sweat to glory.

It is a learning-based program that focuses on the fourth Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations: high-quality education. After an impressive start in Mundra in December 2010, the Udaan initiative was expanded to Hazira (Gujarat), Kawai (Rajasthan), Tirora (Maharashtra), Dhamra (Odisha), and Udupi (Karnataka) in 2016–17. The endeavor involves almost 4 lakh students.

Narratives of Evolution

Supporting Farmers

The Lift Irrigation System in Lakheri, Rajasthan, is a reproducible model showing how to efficiently utilize available water resources by working together. It proved achievable with the proactive involvement of numerous stakeholders in the project’s development and execution. For operation, management, and maintenance, the project has promoted and registered two water user samitis at the village level: Balaji Samudayik Jal Utthan Samiti Kankra Dungar and Samudayik Jal Utthan Sichai Yajna Samiti Utrana. The goal is to maintain ownership with the farmers who use the water.

For farmers, multi-cropping on this scale represented the fulfillment of a dream. The possibility of pursuing regular schooling and adequate medical care in Lakheri is now a fact of life for 500 farmer households that have reaped a greater and more steady income.

Women Empowerment

At the Adani Group by Gautam Adani, empowering women is more than a trendy phrase; it is a basic concept underpinning the organization’s ambition for a brighter tomorrow. The Adani Group has made significant efforts to push for gender parity, inclusiveness, and opportunities for women throughout its varied portfolio of businesses because it firmly believes that women who are given the authority to make decisions may remake societies and economies.

The programs for women’s empowerment center on giving rural women a chance to effectively utilize the options, opportunities, and spaces at their disposal. In light of this, Mahila Udyami Bahuddeshiy Sahkari Samiti (MUBSS) was established at the CSR site in Surguja, Chhatisgarh, to promote women’s empowerment. Aiming to empower rural women through skill development for meaningful economic engagement and enable them to maintain their dignity in society and their institutionalization in the Women’s Cooperative Society for their socio-economic development, the women’s cooperative was founded. It focuses on mobilizing rural women into collaborative organizations and developing their ability and willingness to take risks to have a multifaceted impact on their lives. The ultimate objective is to provide better education, improved health and hygiene, and social cohesion and harmony.

MUBSS was established with 250 women from five villages. It introduced activities such as spice crushing, sanitary pad making, vermicomposting, mid-day meal preparation, white phenyl manufacturing, and wheat grinding to empower them. The project has helped SHG members earn a living, increase their abilities, and raise their socioeconomic status in the villages. The women are financially active by MUBSS and earn between Rs 3,000 and 12,000 monthly, depending upon their abilities and working ability.

Strengthening Healthcare Facilities.

The Foundation’s commitment to providing fair healthcare services to the most vulnerable segments of society has created its presence in 5,675 villages throughout 19 Indian states. In the fiscal year 2022–23, the MHCUs helped over 2 lakh people by providing over 3.5 lakh consultations at their homes, saving them money on medical bills and avoiding wage loss. For example, for the past 15 years, MHCU in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla area has proven to be a blessing amid the hilly environment. In FY 2022–23, the Adani-GAIMS hospital in Bhuj served over 3.75 lahks IPD and OPD patients, making it the largest multi-specialty hospital in Kutch (Gujarat), India’s largest district. Simultaneously, the Adani Hospital in Mundra (Gujarat) served nearly 50,000 patients.

Conclusion

The story of the Adani Foundation, which has touched 3.4 million lives and counting, demonstrates the power of ethical corporate operations and a forthright loyalty to sustainability. Gautam Adani’Foundation’s work is an outstanding demonstration of the beneficial impact that can be produced when corporations emphasize societal well-being. The Adani Foundation stays a force for good, devoted to a more promising and egalitarian future for all, as it embraces its goal to build stronger communities and inspire positive change.
