One of the arguments raised quite a bit against buying more sustainable alternatives is that they are far more expensive than more ‘conventional’ products. Although in some cases it might be true, usually they’re priced pretty much the same So, there’s no excuse, especially when it comes to bathroom products with so many eco-friendly options available. We should seriously consider buying products that are better for the planet and, as a matter of fact, for us. If you want to bring some more ‘sustainability’ to your bathroom – just keep reading.
Organic bath mat
This one can come off as quite a surprise – in the end, what’s a ‘green’ bath mat? How can it be more or less sustainable? Well, it’s very simple, really. Instead of using conventional cotton, which is one of the most labor-intensive and resource-intensive materials known to mankind, we can swap them for bath mats made from its organic alternative. Sourcing and production methods are drastically different and geared towards minimizing environmental impact.
Organic cotton towel
Everything we mentioned in the previous paragraph applies to the next item on our short list – sustainable cotton towels. What a lot of people don’t realize is that water consumption for cotton production is unbelievably high. Just one kilogram of cotton requires 10,000 liters of water. It’s absolutely insane. Not to mention all the pesticides and harmful chemicals used in the production process. No wonder they call it the world’s dirtiest crop. To sum up – just go organic.
Shower curtain
We all know how useful these things are. What we may not realize is that they are made from PVC. Yes, the same material that is used for pipes, window frames, and plenty of other interior elements. Now, this is normally a hard plastic, but thanks to a combination of (harmful, may we add) chemicals – it becomes quite soft. Our advice is to swap them for hemp shower curtains. Hemp has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, so you basically kill two birds with one stone.
All of these products are still affordable and – honestly – offer great value for money. Let’s all try to do better and start making more environmentally conscious choices in our everyday lives.
