The desire by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to declare his country’s airspace a no-fly zone has the potential to start World War III.

zelenskyy world war

Wars have erupted in Iraq, Syria, and between two of the world’s most powerful nations, China and India, but the threat of World War III has never seemed as real as it does today, in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The US-led coalition military force in Iraq. Even Russia was involved in Syria. The combat in Ukraine is restricted to Russia’s invasion.

Russia’s Ukraine conflict is limited on a military level, but the possibility of World War III is greater than ever. As the Russia-Ukraine conflict progresses, another World War may be just around the corner.

And Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s insistence that his country’s airspace be declared a no-fly zone might be the catalyst. This is precisely why, despite their passionate condemnation of Russia, the US and the European Union have rejected Zelenskyy’s proposal that Ukraine’s airspace be declared a no-fly zone.

It appears that, like Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who shares the first name Zelenskyy with Ukraine’s president, the Russia-Ukraine conflict is a result of Nato (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)-Russia rivalry. Zelenskyy has been lobbying Nato to join the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In his most recent try, Zelenskyy used Twitter to broadcast a selfie video saying, “We repeat every day, close the sky over Ukraine. Close it to all Russian missiles, combat aircraftfor all these terrorists.”

He said, “If you do not do that, at least not give us aircraft for us to be able to protect ourselves. [Else] there can only be one conclusion: you also want us to be slowly killed.”

The US, Nato, and the European Union have all rejected Zelenskyy’s appeals. He has held video conferences with European and American officials to explain his case and provide his reasons in support of his desire for more Nato countries to participate in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Until date, neither Europe nor America has sent troops to fight on the Ukrainian side against Russia. Their response to the Russian incursion has been limited to financial and military assistance.

The term “World War” refers to two multi-lateral conflicts that were mostly European in nature. The Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey) battled the Allies in the First World War, which lasted from 1914 to 1919. (France, the UK, Soviet Russia, Italy, Japan, and from 1917, the United States).

The Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) and the Allies were primarily involved in the Second World War, which lasted from 1939 to 1945. (France, the UK, the US and Soviet Russia).

Asian countries remained mostly unaffected by the two World Wars. India had soldiers participating in both wars, although this was mostly due to the fact that the nation was under British colonial administration at the time.

Japan was the sole active Asian nation in World War II, competing with the West for industrialization, market acquisition, and geostrategic objectives.

In terms of armament and geography, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has the potential to become a larger conflict. It’s possible that big Asian powers will take part.

Ukraine is not a member of NATO. If the European Union or the United States establishes a no-fly zone over Ukraine, the nation will almost certainly be granted Nato protection. Twenty-one of the European Union’s 27 nations are NATO members. Others have complicated ties to the member countries.

Furthermore, the Nato pact requires all 30 member-nations to regard an attack on one of them as an invasion of their own country.

Simply said, if the EU or the US declares Ukraine a no-fly zone while a Russian invasion is continuing, Nato will fire down any Russian aircraft or missile that tries to enter its airspace. This would very certainly result in Russian retaliation.

A Russian strike on any Nato member country would escalate the Russia-Ukraine dispute into a military battle involving Russia and 30 other nations across Europe and North America.

Russia would be hemmed in. In such a scenario, China, the Asian military and economic behemoth, is likely to join the European battle. China has made no apologies for asserting its “no bounds friendship” with Russia.
