As early as September, there is no denying the breeze of the -ber months! Jose Mari Chan and Mariah Carey are playing on the radio, followed by months of sales, with some people starting to plan their December holidays. However, just because you cannot afford to go overseas for Christmas doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it while still in the Philippines!

Amidst the familiar tunes and festive spirit, local markets come alive with vibrant colors and flavors, offering a unique blend of traditional and modern holiday delights. Street corners adorned with bright parol lanterns and the aroma of bibingka and puto bumbong wafting through the air create a warm and inviting atmosphere, making the local Christmas experience truly magical.

If you’re going to Ilocos, here’s a list of locations to visit. These are some of the most remarkable spots in the area if you’re spending the mid-December there!

Calle Crisologo

Calle Crisologo is far from the Best hotel in San Juan La Union, but it is one of the best Christmas locations in Ilocos.

Calle Crisologo is a cobblestoned street lined with Spanish-era ancestral houses and Spanish colonial architecture. It is also considered one of the best-preserved heritage sites in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Some houses are well-maintained, while others are used as stores. Others, unfortunately, have been abandoned and even forgotten. A lively hub of souvenir shops and restaurants align on the street.

It is a busy but welcoming street, with great people and great food choices that make you feel you have returned in time.

When visiting Calle Crisologo, drop by during the late afternoon or early evening, wear comfortable shoes, and get your cameras ready!

Late afternoon or early evening is the best time to visit. Just be sure to wear comfy shoes to enjoy the place. Park by the cathedral or in some curbside that allows parking! It is better appreciated while on foot, after all!

Evangeline Beach Resort

Next up is the Evangeline Beach Resort.

Saud is one of the best and most beautiful beaches globally, and the reason for this is because it has white sand and clear waters. Many beaches and resorts are located there, making it perfect for relaxing nearby. One of them is the Evangeline Beach Resort – a paradise perfect for all times of the year!

While in Evangeline Beach Resort, you can glimpse the tranquil shores and pristine white sands.

The Beach Resort features wood furnishings and earthen tile floors, with its decorated suites boasting breezy verandas, living rooms, minibars, satellite TV, DVD players, and Wi-Fi access. It houses a thatched roof and two (2) bedrooms inside its cottages. It also has a villa with six (6) bedrooms, a private outdoor pool, and a dining area.

Hidden Garden

Hidden Garden is for those who enjoy food! Hidden Garden is a tranquil garden with different plants and flowers that serves fine delicacies. The atmosphere here is nature-inspired and peaceful. Empanada, poqui poqui, Vigan longganisa, bagnet, and other Ilocano specialties are among those that you should order at this restaurant. There is a nearby cave where you can explore and take photos with your loved ones!

Plaza Salcedo

Lastly, we have Plaza Salcedo. Your vacation to Ilocos will only be complete with a visit to the illustrious Vigan City! Vigan is beautiful year-round, but it comes to life especially during September-December, thanks to the Christmas lights and decorations. There are plenty of beautiful historical landmarks and buildings in Vigan, but one to be noticed is Plaza Salcedo!

Nestled in the heart of Vigan, Plaza Salcedo is a captivating public square that encapsulates the city’s rich cultural heritage. The plaza, named after the Spanish conquistador Juan de Salcedo, offers a serene escape amidst its well-manicured gardens and iconic dancing fountain. As you wander through the plaza, you’ll be surrounded by centuries-old acacia trees, casting a dappled shade over the cobblestone paths.

The architecture surrounding Plaza Salcedo is a harmonious blend of Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish influences, showcasing the city’s diverse history. The Cesar Virata Monument stands proudly in the center, paying homage to a native son who became the Prime Minister of the Philippines. Additionally, the St. Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral, with its distinct bell tower, adds to the religious and historical significance of the area.

Take a leisurely stroll around the plaza, and you’ll encounter local artisans selling handcrafted souvenirs and delicacies, providing an authentic taste of Vigan’s craftsmanship. The vibrant atmosphere intensifies during festivals and events, transforming Plaza Salcedo into a lively hub of cultural celebrations. Whether you’re interested in history, and architecture, or simply absorbing the local ambiance, Plaza Salcedo stands as a testament to Vigan City’s enduring charm.
