San Francisco
Colorful San Francisco is built on 43 hills and is located on the coast. The city is known for its Victorian homes and historic streetcars that brave the many hills.
Visible from a great distance, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the city’s jewels. Downtown you will find Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world. Skyscrapers and impressive structures, such as the Transamerica Pyramid, make up SF’s famous skyline. For cooling off, strong waves and a beautiful beach, go to Baker Beach. From San Francisco you can easily visit the famous prison Alcatraz, now a museum and national park, where Al Capone once stayed.
Death Valley
This particularly beautiful desert-like valley is one of the warmest places on earth and also the driest area in the United States. Avoid Death Valley National Park in July and August. The temperature then easily exceeds 47 degrees Celsius. The landscape varies from mountains, rocks and sand dunes to vast salt flats, ruptured crusts and deep canyons. You can watch the most impressive sunrise and sunset ever. Visit Ubehebe Crater (an ancient volcanic crater) and the Artist’s Pallet and Zabriskie Point colored mountains. Dante’s View is also worth a visit for a cool panoramic view. The best place to spend the night is Furnace Creek or Stovepipe. Don’t forget to look up for the magically beautiful starry sky!
Joshua Tree National Park
Located at the intersection of the Mojave and Colorado deserts, this national park takes its name from the thousands of Joshua trees. In addition to these special trees, you will find many unnaturally stacked white round smooth stones, which are also an eye-catcher. The beautiful surroundings are perfect for taking walks. Both short and brisk hikes are possible. Bring plenty of water and head out. A beautiful hike not to be missed takes you to the unusual rock formation Skull Rock, which has the shape of a skull.
Yosemite National Park
The most spectacular natural combinations in California can be found in Yosemite National Park. The park covers an area of 3,080 square kilometers.
