After days of announcing Netflix’s password-sharing ability come to an end, the subscriber count keeps rising. The recent developments in Netflix’s operations made a shocking revelation across the world. Ending the password-sharing feature and forcing each one to buy their own account took many by surprise as Netflix is a leading content streaming platform. Though it seemed like a step in the wrong direction, it certainly is going in the right direction, as per recent reports.
Recent reports have emerged showing data of an increased subscriber count of Netflix in the United States. The data was shared by a data analytics company called Antenna, which reported a huge spike in Netflix’s subscriber counts just days after the industry-leading streaming platform made the announcement.
In just a matter of days after the announcement, Netflix’s subscriber count rose to 73000 in the meantime, marking a 102% increase over Netflix’s average. Antenna has also reported about Netflix added about 100000 subscribers on both May 26th and 27th. This accounts for more number in subscribers than Netflix managed to account for during the covid-related lockdowns in the United States alone. Antenna’s data is strong and tells a lot about how Netflix drives the current generation of people.
While there is no legit password-sharing feature in Netflix currently, Netflix has revealed that with an extra $7.99 per month, people would be able to share their account with up to two people outside their house. It seems weird, but it has shown positive results, so I guess it is not weird after all.
Antenna also reports that Netflix warned its investors of a possible “cancel reaction” in response to the password-sharing crackdown, but there have only been positive reactions so far, and instead of “cancel reaction” going up, the company has already witnessed more signups than cancellations.
While the United States is not the only country to have implemented this rule, there are places where this rule has not yet been applied, and people can still make use of the password-sharing policy while it is still available. Apart from the US, paid password-sharing is available in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. As a result of the recent developments, Netflix has witnessed an increased subscriber count in Canada, which is somehow in competition with the US, and it is growing faster than the US.
While the improvements aren’t yet available in India, it is safe to say that they will be rolled out soon here. India is also a huge market for the company, and its plans for the place are in the making. While it is too early to predict how this decision will affect in the long run, it will be a massive discovery if the company makes impressive progress in the next month after the announcement.
