If you work in the field of science, chances are you’re going to run into lab equipment. For example, maybe you’re working with a microscope and need to clean it every so often. Maybe your research requires working with small animals, which means checking up on them from time to time is important. Or maybe you have an unusual job like a zoo keeper who needs to take care of different animals all day long. Whatever the case may be, there is one common thing that everyone who works in a lab has to deal with: lab equipment maintenance. Even if your job doesn’t require scientific knowledge, chances are high that you know at least one person who does work in science and would enjoy hearing about their daily routine. To that end, here is what my Labcorp employee does every single day at work:

Check in with the alarms and sensors

One of my employee’s first tasks at work is to check in with the alarms and sensors that have been set up throughout the lab. If the sensors that have been attached to various pieces of equipment have been triggered, then these alarms are a sign that something has gone wrong. For example, maybe the microscope is broken or the chemicals in the lab have reacted in a way that is dangerous. In these cases, the sensors will start beeping, alerting any lab staff who happen to be nearby. Depending on the nature of the alarm, the employee will take any steps needed to resolve the issue. For example, maybe the microscope is broken and the alarm warns that it needs to be cleaned. In this case, the employee can do so by using a swab or a brush to remove the debris.

Clean up and organize

After checking in with the alarms and sensors, the next thing my employee does is to clean up and organize the lab. This is important because it keeps the work space organized, which makes it much easier for the rest of the staff to find what they need. For example, my employee likes to put all of the lab equipment back in their original places after cleaning them. This helps avoid accidents because it keeps employees from bumping into each other when walking around the lab. Another cleaning activity that my employee likes to perform is to sanitize all of the equipment. The reason for this is that bacteria, viruses and other microbes can cause diseases that can be dangerous for humans, animals and plants. The most common example of this is the common flu. To prevent this, labs are required by law to regularly sanitize all the equipment so that no microbes get a chance to multiply.

Enter data into the computer

Depending on the nature of the job, entering data into the computer may be an everyday task, or it could just be a small part of the job. For example, if my Labcorp employee works in a lab that studies the effects of marijuana on the human body, then they will likely spend a lot of time entering data into the computer. This may involve looking up various pieces of information on the Internet or comparing different pieces of information to see if they match. To make sure that their data is accurate, my employee will compare the computer’s data with the information from the sensors. They may also look at the lab books to make sure that their calculations are accurate.

Respond to emails and messages

At Labcorp, we try to make the workplace as friendly and casual as possible. As such, we don’t like to have employees sitting at their desks all day long, staring at a computer screen. Instead, we prefer to have them interacting with others at work, doing fun activities and receiving regular feedback. To that end, many of my employee’s days are spent responding to emails and messages. These messages and emails may come from clients, other employees, or even friends and family. Whatever the case may be, my employee will read and respond to each message and email received. They may also delegate work or help their colleagues with the tasks they have been assigned.

Wrap up the day with a lab tour

At the end of a long day, every my centura health portal wants to be able to relax. To help achieve this, many of my employee’s days are spent wrapping up the day with a lab tour. During the tour, employees invite their colleagues to join them in exploring the lab. They may show off their favorite pieces of equipment or explain the work that was done during the day. They may also invite their colleagues to challenge them to a friendly competition, such as a game of ping-pong. Another way to use the tour is to offer tours of other labs. This helps bring more people together, makes the company seem more diverse and gives co-workers an opportunity to learn about other fields of work.

Final Words

Lab work can be complicated and it’s easy for things to go wrong. This is why it’s important to have a maintenance plan that covers all of your equipment. The maintenance plan should include things like checking the alarms and sensors, cleaning the equipment and organizing the space. These are all things that need to be done regularly. When you’re preparing for the maintenance plan, it’s important to note the most important pieces of equipment. This way, you don’t have to spend time checking out other pieces of equipment. By knowing the most important pieces of equipment, you can spend more time on the pieces that need more attention. Lab work can be complicated and it’s easy for things to go wrong.
