According to reports, Adani Group has submitted an application to take part in the next 5G spectrum auctions, which will take place later this month. This might be the company’s first step into the telecom sector.

The group reportedly expressed its interest on July 8, the last day the telecom department designated for collecting applications from prospective bidders, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

It was unknown which group member or how many airwaves a member of the group requested to participate.

A new company may apply for spectrum as long as it guarantees that it will get the unified licence for offering access services, mobile services, or data services in any region of the nation, according to the government’s guidelines for welcoming applications.

The department stated in the notice inviting applications, the official document laying out the rules of the auction, that “Any entity that gives an undertaking to obtain a Unified License with authorization for Access Services through a New Entrant Nominee as per the DoT guidelines/license conditions can bid for the Spectrum.”

The additional terms state that only an Indian firm is eligible to receive a unified licence and that any foreign applicant must establish or purchase an Indian company.

As on Friday night, emails made to Adani Group had not received a reply. Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have also expressed interest in taking part in the auctions, the source continued. As of Friday night, emails addressed to Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have not received a response.

The 600 MHz, 700 MHz, and 3300 MHz bands of 5G airwaves have all been made available for purchase by the government. Airwaves in the 26 GHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 2500 MHz bands, in addition to 5G.

On July 26, auctions will take conducted. On July 20, the government will reveal the final list of bids.
