Ambati Rayudu of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) declared his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday, however he then removed the post.

“I am pleased to say that this will be my final IPL appearance. “I’ve had a terrific experience playing it and being a member of two great teams for the past 13 years,” Rayudu tweeted.

“I’d want to express my gratitude to the Mumbai Indians and CSK for a fantastic voyage.”

This isn’t the first time Ambati Rayudu has made an outlandish retirement announcement. He declared his retirement after not being selected for the 2019 ODI World Cup, but then changed his mind and returned to play in the IPL.

Rayudu retired from first-class cricket in 2018 to concentrate on the shorter format. And the strategy appeared to be working, as he was called up to the India ODI team, which was looking for a No. 4 batsman. Even that wasn’t easy; he only made the cut after passing the yo-yo fitness test on his second try.

Rayudu’s consistency inspired India captain Virat Kohli to declare that India had discovered their World Cup No. 4. The squad ultimately chose Vijay Shankar, a Tamil Nadu allrounder described as a “three-dimensional” player by head selector M S K Prasad. “Just purchased a new set of 3D glasses to watch the world cup,” Rayudu tweeted shortly after.
