Attestation is a basic requirement for any government document as well as any personal document for any kind of entry or for foreign travel purposes. Apostille Attestation is a type of attestation in which papers are legalised in a specified way, after which they become valid in all Hague Convention member countries.

It is a kind of international attestation accepted by around 105 nation-states worldwide especially, since it has gained recognition in western countries.

What Apostille Attestation Includes?

Apostille Attestation basically includes personal documents such as birth, death, marriage certificates, power of attorney, affidavits along with documents related to educational qualification i.e. matriculation, diploma, degree, and secondary level certificates.

The legalisation of foreign public documents was abolished and the process of Apostille Attestation was introduced which was accepted by 105 countries that were members of the Hague Convention. If a candidate is apostilled in one nation, then he is not required to get his documentation attested in each country separately.

Procedure For Such Attestation

It is especially beneficial to those who are students and want to study abroad. They need to get their documents done apostilled in the following manner:

●       Visit the website of e-sanad (an e-service for verifying and attesting the documents of citizens of India as introduced by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India)

●       Then applicants are supposed to upload the required documents to the website and pay the required standard fee as set by the electronic service provider.

●       Then the digital verification of the documents is done by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), Government of India(GOI), and General Administration Department (GAD).

●       The Indian Government External Affairs Ministry then verifies the digitally signed documents.

●       Then final attested documents with apostille stickers are sent to the applicant.

●       Outsourced agencies are the mediator between the applicant and the Ministry of External Affairs as the latter does not directly accept documents from the applicant.

Apostille Attestation Fee

An amount of Rs. 50 (Rupees Fifty) is charged by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for apostilling each document. As it does not directly accept the documents from the individual and receives them from outsourced agencies, for such collection of documents, the outsourced agencies charge Rs. 90 (Rupees Ninety) per document and Rs. 3 (Rupees Three ) for scanning.
