Ashley Judd spoke out about the death of her mother, Naomi Judd, in a new interview Thursday.
In an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Ashley Judd said her family wanted to be the ones who shared the details of how Naomi Judd died.

“She used a weapon,” Ashley Judd told host Diane Sawyer. “My mother used a firearm, so that’s the piece of information that we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand we’re in a position that if we don’t say it, someone else is going to.”
Naomi Judd died at 76 on April 30, a day before she and her daughter Wynonna Judd, of the Grammy-winning duo The Judds, were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In announcing Naomi Judd’s death, daughters Wynonna and Ashley Judd said they had lost their mother to “the disease of mental illness.”
